Specific Transition Planning for Military Families:

At our school, we understand that military families often face significant transitions due to their service. To provide the necessary support, our guidance counselor plays a crucial role in easing this process. They meet with all new families, including military families, to discuss available resources and provide valuable information about the school.

Military Point of Contact, Lahona Hutto, is readily available to assist military families in navigating the transition process, ensuring that they feel welcomed and supported. You can reach her at (850) 767-1506.

Specific Academic Planning for Military Families:

Academic success is a top priority at our school. We offer parent workshops that focus on Florida BEST standards, ensuring that all families, including military families, have access to valuable information about the state's educational standards and expectations.

Additionally, we provide training sessions that are centered on grade-level state assessments, helping military children and their families understand the academic requirements and achieve their full potential.

Resources and Educational Opportunities for Military Children:

We are committed to ensuring that military children have access to the resources and educational opportunities they need to thrive. We offer after-school tutoring and summer school programs to support military students in staying up to date with their grade level.

These programs provide additional academic assistance, ensuring that military children can excel academically, even in the face of challenging transitions and relocations.

Student-Led Transition Team:

Welcoming new families, especially those in the military, is a priority for us. Our 4th and 5th-grade safety patrol students serve as a warm and friendly welcoming committee for new families. They actively participate in campus tours, connecting with new students and ensuring they feel part of our school community from day one.

Support for Military ESE Children:

For military students with exceptional needs, we provide individualized instruction and classroom support. Our certified ESE teacher is dedicated to ensuring that every military child with unique requirements receives the personalized support they need to thrive academically and personally.

Military Recognition Events:

At our school, we take pride in recognizing and honoring our military community. We actively participate in the Field of Flags event for Veterans Day, which pays tribute to our Viking Family members who have served in the military.

Additionally, we celebrate April as Military Child Month, where we highlight a Student of the Month, recognizing the achievements and resilience of military children.

Access to Mental Health Services:

We understand the importance of mental health support for military children. That's why we have a team of dedicated professionals, including our School Counselors and the District Mental Health Team, available to assist military children and their families.

We provide Community of Care referrals, connecting families with the appropriate mental health support they may need. Our district contact works closely with our school staff to ensure that military children have access to the best-fit resources for their mental health and well-being, emphasizing our commitment to their holistic development.
